Help with your first idea

Get from a brief to a useful next step.

Pain Monkey helps you inspect an app idea before building it. Bring one customer group and one problem. Your brief is a starting point for research and a small customer test.

Get started

The research workspace shows whether new beta reports are available. The free beta offers one report per account while capacity lasts, with no card or subscription. Product updates do not reserve a place. When research is closed, explore the example brief or use the free customer-test planner without an account.

Be specific: “Help busy parents use leftover ingredients for three weeknight dinners” gives us more to investigate than “an AI food app.” Describe groups, not identifiable people. Leave out private customer information, credentials and confidential business material.

Sign in and email links

Use the same email address each time. Check spam if the message does not arrive, and use the newest message if you requested more than one. Open a sign-in link in the browser that requested it. If your email contains a six-digit code, choose “Have a sign-in code?” in the workspace and enter the matching email and code; this also works in another browser.

If a link or code has expired, request a new one. Wait a minute before another request if sending is temporarily limited. If the problem continues, contact support. Never send us your sign-in link, code, password or access token.

Slow or interrupted research

Allow several minutes and keep the tab open while research runs. Each finished step is saved. Use the workspace’s pause control between steps when you need to leave. Closing the tab can interrupt progress; a request already running may still finish.

Return to the same account and open the saved report. Follow its displayed recovery or continue action. If the workspace cannot confirm whether a request finished, it stops to avoid repeating work. Do not start another account or repeatedly submit the idea. Send support the report ID and the displayed error so we can check. An incomplete research angle is shown as a limitation in the brief.

Use and check your brief

  1. Read the proposed offer and reasons to hesitate. A useful result may narrow your customer, change the idea or suggest pausing.
  2. Open the source pages. Check whether the people actually match your customer and report an unresolved problem. A satisfied user, publisher’s advice or a competitor’s advertised price does not establish demand for your app. AI can misread a passage.
  3. Review the proposed test, choose your success rule before recruiting and use the planner to record what people actually do. You review the imported draft before saving it. Ask about recent behavior and offer something small you can deliver; compliments alone do not show use or willingness to pay.

The brief includes AI-generated notes and captured source passages, shown separately. It cannot guarantee a complete market picture or a successful business. Optional usefulness feedback is private; it does not subscribe you to updates or become a public testimonial.

Find, download or delete your work

Research reports: sign in on another device to open your saved reports. Download an individual brief from its report, or use “Download account research data” in account settings for a JSON export of your account research, acceptance records and optional feedback. That export is a data copy, not a restore file.

Free plans and worksheets: these stay in the browser where you created them. Signing in does not sync them. Download the planner’s backup before switching browsers or clearing browser storage. Keep downloaded reports and backups private.

Delete a report from its workspace controls or close your account in account settings. Review the confirmation before proceeding. Account deletion does not erase your downloads, local plans, separate product-update signup or support messages. Contact support

Email evherbstman@gmail.com. For a research problem, include your account email, report ID if available, and what happened. Share the error wording or a cropped screenshot with private details removed; the full idea or report is usually unnecessary. This is also our contact for privacy requests, source corrections and copyright complaints.
